History

Wallis Drilling was established in 1964, by father and son team of Marty and Jamie Wallis.

Wallis Drilling has, over the years, been singularly successful in developing innovative new drilling techniques. Three sample drilling systems, incorporating dual tube drilling using circulating air in the drill string, have been developed and patented world wide. Acknowledged as a “standard” for reverse circulation drilling in Australia, the Wallis Air Core system has been granted an Australian Design Award.

Throughout the 1970's the Australian Design Award winning Wallis Aircore system was developed. The Wallis aircore drilling technique has become the standard for drilling by the mineral sands industry. The nickel and uranium boom utilised the aircore system for drilling in the sticky clays for which the dual tube system has been designed and proven to handle all types of materials.

During the 1980’s, Wallis drilling expanded its fleet to include Reverse Circulation, Aircore and Diamond Core drill rigs. By 1989 Wallis Drilling were operating 22 drill rigs in every state in Australia as well as undertaking drilling operations in Africa, the America’s and many places in South East Asia.

During the 1990’s a period a further expansion took place, grade control and blast hole rigs were added to the fleet, as well as the design of specialist equipment, including lake drilling rigs, helicopter transportable drill rigs and custom built rigs to suit specific environments.

Since those early days, the company has maintained a steady rate of growth, resulting in a present day fleet of 35 drill rigs and over 160 employees. Wallis Drilling remains under the ownership and management of Jamie and Graeme Wallis.
